Juggling pans at boiling point.
The past few weeks have been HOT, summer has hit and my life, which usually hovers around simmering point, has over boiled and seems to keep scalding me.  Indeed it seems that at the moment, just like an out of control cook, many of my dishes are overheating and for the life of me I have no idea where the switch is to turn them down…no idea at all.  Fortunately I’ve worked out that if you keep...

Riding with the windows down, “Playing your cards...
All of a sudden, in April, life got a little mental.  The team dropped from 3 to 2 as the lovely Miss Jessica Lebaja waved goodbye and set sail for Mindanao for a brief home visit before joining LAMAVE’s team in Oslob, Cebu…then in a blink of an eye, Verena got held up in Surigao city and had to stay overnight, leaving me as the only member to fly the Leyte LAMAVE flag…  Me and my broken...

WatchWatch
Some relaxing whale shark footage from photographer/videographer Steve De Neef, mainly filmed from his visit last week to our LAMAVE base here in Southern Leyte, Philippines. All footage shot with a Canon 5D markIII, 16-35mm f2.8 lens using only natural light and one breath of air :) Great Job Steve! And yes these are just some of the creatures I find myself working with everyday ;-)

Since last Tuesday photographer and LAMAVE superstar Steve De Neef (www.stevedeneef.com) has been visiting our base here in Southern Leyte, and since he first rocked up to find mine and ve’s tired and broken faces (me with a pounding ear – consequence of half living underwater – and Ve with a swollen eye) things have passed in a whirlwind!  A whirlwind of sharks, rice, harpoons and fake blood,...

It’s not often that you feel like a PROPER explorer….you know a real life “things dreams are made of” Explorer…. the feeling of being the first, to discover something new, something special…to witness something that makes you wonder WHO else has set eyes on this before… Well, this believe it or not is how Jess, Verena and I felt last Friday.  And OK, we may not have been ‘true explorers’ as in the...

And then there were three. It is with great sadness/relief/joy (delete as appropriate) that we announce the departure of Gonzo, the only male member of Leyte’s LAMAVE team.  And though it’s not permanent – he’s escaped to Argentina for a month to see family– for now the project has been left in the hands of the girls.  So, so long Gonzo we will miss you.  Good luck in rehab….I’m sure you’re not...
